NFL Suspends Cardinals Executive Ryan Gold Indefinitely for Gambling Policy Violation

The NFL has indefinitely suspended Ryan Gold, an executive with the Arizona Cardinals, for breaching the league’s gambling policy. According to the league’s statement, Gold was found to have shared confidential inside information on draft selections for 2026 with undisclosed parties prior to their official announcement and engaged in parlay bets on NFL and college sports.

The NFL reiterated its stringent stance against gambling activities by its personnel, emphasizing, The Gambling Policy, which is annually reviewed with all NFL personnel, strictly prohibits anyone in the NFL from participating in or facilitating any form of sports gambling, and from providing third parties non-public information. While the league confirmed that the integrity of the games remained unaffected, it underscored its commitment to addressing policy violations with utmost seriousness.

Gold, who has been part of the Cardinals organization for 13 years, was elevated to director of college scouting in June 2025. His tenure with the team includes positions such as assistant director of college scouting from 2022 to 2024 and college scouting coordinator from 2018 to 2021.

Gold is entitled to contest the suspension, but attempts to reach him for comments on Friday were unsuccessful. The NFL enforces firm gambling restrictions on players and personnel, supported by a comprehensive gambling education initiative that targets over 20,000 affiliates across the league.

The league’s policy specifies that players are strictly forbidden from:

• Placing bets on NFL football.
• Engaging in activities that would impact the outcome of NFL games or events.
• Sharing confidential, non-public information about games, players, or events with third parties.

While NFL players can legally wager on non-NFL sports under certain conditions, league and club personnel are not granted this privilege. Additionally, players may participate in traditional fantasy football leagues, provided prize money does not surpass $250, and may gamble legally at casinos during personal time.

The investigation confirmed Arizona Cardinals cooperated fully, revealing no evidence that any other personnel were cognizant of or involved in Gold’s actions. Furthermore, the review process included interviews and analysis of electronic records, verifying no influence on game outcomes or plays.

Since 1963, at least 15 players have faced suspensions due to gambling violations, including some recent instances. The most recent indefinite suspension occurred in June 2023, when Isaiah Rodgers, formerly with the Indianapolis Colts, was penalized.
