Patrick Mahomes has secured another lucrative deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs extended his NFL contract by two years, adding $239.05 million in new money. This extension brings the total contract value to $504.75 million through the 2033 season.
The contract structure ensures that all $504.75 million becomes fully guaranteed. Incentives and escalators could raise the total to $522.25 million. This agreement means Mahomes could earn over half a billion dollars, even if he never plays another game.
Starting in 2027, the yearly average of his contract will be $64 million, setting a new NFL record. This extension, though surprising in its amount, follows the September 2023 restructuring agreement to revisit the deal after 2026. For 2026, his average annual value is set at $45 million, ranking 13th among NFL quarterbacks.
In comparison, Dak Prescott leads with $60 million per year. Many consider Mahomes one of the top quarterbacks, ahead of names like Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson, making this adjustment expected.
Back in 2020, Mahomes signed a notable 10-year, $450 million extension. It was the largest contract in North American sports history. While $45 million annually seemed high then, many quarterbacks now earn similar amounts.
By the end of the 2025 season, Mahomes’ NFL career earnings are projected at close to $232 million. Upon completing his contract, he could approach one billion dollars solely from on-field achievements.
Off the field, Mahomes generates around $20 million annually from endorsements. He’s associated with brands like State Farm, Adidas, Oakley, and Head & Shoulders. He also invests in MLB’s Kansas City Royals and holds stakes in MLS’s Sporting Kansas City and NWSL’s Kansas City Current.
Currently, his estimated net worth stands at $160 million. He remains one of the wealthiest professional athletes at just 30 years old.
