On Wednesday, Philadelphia police announced a death investigation after disturbing images and videos were discovered at a home in the Olney neighborhood. These items appear to depict the bodies of two women who had been reported missing. This discovery is part of an ongoing inquiry into the residence of Eugene Horsch, a 44-year-old currently in custody on charges linked to firearms and fake credentials from the DEA and FBI. No additional charges have been pressed against Horsch as of Wednesday.
Inspector Ray Evers from the Philadelphia Police provided more details at a news briefing. He confirmed that the digital evidence retrieved shows images and clips suggesting the deaths of two women, identified as Maribel Fresses and Gabriella Amarando. Fresses disappeared in 2018 when she was 27, while Amarando went missing in 2012 at the age of 22.
I’m not going to get into exactly what I saw. It’s real dark. What we saw is these two girls alive; there is a period of time, and what appears to us is that they are deceased.
Evers explained that over 95 search warrants have been executed at the property. The FBI is aiding in the investigation. Authorities have retrieved about 600,000 images and 70,000 videos from devices at Horsch’s residence.
The sheer volume of digital evidence is overwhelming. Evers noted that “this investigation will take time” and highlighted the challenge for the homicide unit, stating, “Usually, when we have a homicide investigation, we have a body. We have body parts. This time we do not.”
