President Trump Issues Pardons to 11 Individuals

2 hours ago 0

President Donald Trump pardoned 11 individuals on Friday, highlighting his continued use of presidential clemency powers. The list included a former business partner of lobbyist Jack Abramoff and nine people involved in bypassing vehicle emissions controls.

These pardons align with Trump’s pattern of offering clemency to allies and figures aligned with his administration. His unilateral ability to grant pardons and commute sentences underscores his broad use of executive authority.

Trump announced some of these pardons via social media, without initially naming the recipients. “It is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for ‘fixing their car,’” he wrote on Truth Social. “I AM SETTING THEM ALL FREE, RIGHT NOW!” he exclaimed.

The White House provided a list illustrating that nine of the pardoned faced charges under the Clean Air Act. They were involved in disabling emissions monitoring systems or selling bypass devices.

Earlier in the week, Trump signed a memo to the Environmental Protection Agency, advocating for the right of Americans to modify their vehicles. This memo referenced a diesel mechanic pardoned last year for similar emissions-related offenses and would override the California Air Resources Board’s power to regulate parts affecting emissions.

Among the pardoned was Adam Kidan, a former associate of Abramoff. Kidan pleaded guilty in 2005 to fraud and conspiracy related to gambling boats, leading to a nearly six-year prison sentence. Post-incarceration, he initiated his staffing business ventures and is now the president of Empire Workforce Solutions.

Newsday highlighted in March that Kidan hosted a fundraiser at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago for a Republican candidate, showcasing his political involvement. Attempts to reach Kidan for comment were unsuccessful.

Trump also pardoned ranch owner Jack Harvard, recognizing his “upstanding record” and noting his support for military training exercises on his property. Further details about Harvard’s conviction were not provided by the White House.
