Prince Harry and Meghan’s Tensions with UK Media Flare Again

3 weeks ago 0

Prince Harry has consistently blamed the UK media for many of the issues leading him and Meghan Markle to leave royal life. As they return to Britain, those tensions seem to be resurfacing. A recent tabloid headline questioned Harry’s relationship with King Charles III.

In August, the couple secured a correction from the Daily Mail over a false story about visiting celebrity friends. Now, a Daily Mirror headline claims Harry has not spoken to Charles since returning to Britain. Newsweek reports this is incorrect.

Harry sued the Daily Mirror over historic phone-hacking claims. Despite the newspaper’s statement, sources indicate Harry and Charles did speak after the Sussexes’ return.

Why It Matters

Harry and Meghan’s return is still new. How they handle previous tensions will shape their reintegration into UK life. These tensions include family rifts and media criticism, which the couple suggests were influenced by certain agendas.

A Mirror article implied ongoing family tensions, saying Harry hadn’t scheduled a conversation with Charles. Meanwhile, Charles was in Scotland. Sources told Newsweek Harry did speak to his father, despite not filing a formal complaint.

The couple also challenged a Mail story alleging they had socialized with Geri and Christian Horner. It claimed they discussed the Sussexes’ return and were maintaining close ties. The Mail corrected the false report and removed the article.

Palace Relations

The Mirror dispute followed new palace tensions over a letter sent on Charles’ behalf. It described Harry and Meghan as non-working royals with HRH titles not in use. The letter, directed to government and military officials nationwide, advised against using royal titles for the couple.

Reports showed Harry and Meghan were “surprised” by the letter’s short notice, issued hours before reaching the media. They requested a line change to define them as “public figures” instead of “private citizens.” No alteration was made.

The letter clarified: “Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used. The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity. In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”
