Nine protesters have been handed unexpectedly lengthy sentences in two federal courts. The Justice Department charged them with affiliations to Antifa. These individuals were arrested following a demonstration at a migrant detention center in Texas. During the protest, a police officer sustained a gunshot wound.
Justice correspondent Ali Rogin explored the matter further with insights from former federal prosecutor Paul Butler. Rogin, known for her coverage on the Supreme Court and America’s judicial system, has previously been awarded a Peabody Award in 2021. Her recognition came from News Hour’s series on the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, Rogin holds two Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association. Her collaborative efforts have led to Emmy nominations, including her involvement in reporting on the downfall of ISIS in 2020, the tragic Las Vegas mass shooting in 2017, President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2014, and the 2010 midterm elections.
