Rep. Mike Lawler of New York has forecasted a loss for far-left candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. He expressed confidence that American voters will reject what he described as the growing ‘politics of envy.’ During an appearance on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend,’ Lawler echoed former President Donald Trump’s warning about the increased presence of far-left ideology in the U.S., referencing Trump’s speech at Mount Rushmore.
Lawler stated, ‘For some, the politics of envy and jealousy are on the rise. But I firmly believe in the goodness of America and the American people. They will reject this soundly in the midterms.’
Lawler’s comments came during an event focused on the economy at Rockland Community College Fieldhouse, attended by Trump on May 22, 2026, in Suffern, New York.
Trump spoke at Mount Rushmore to commence celebrations for the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence. He warned, ‘As we approach this anniversary, our American identity is under renewed attack. Decades after defeating communism in the Cold War, a resurgence is evident on our soil.’
Trump vowed to prevent the nation from adopting communism, labeling it the ‘greatest threat to our country.’ He assured, ‘After 250 years, American freedom continues. The American dream thrives. The American flag stands prouder than ever.’
Despite recent victories by Democratic socialist candidates in various primaries, including in New York, Lawler argued these outcomes, along with anti-American sentiments, undermine the Founding Fathers’ vision as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.
House Speaker Mike Johnson mirrored these concerns following the primary victories of several far-left candidates in New York. He stated that the nation faces a serious situation, asserting that communism is making its presence known domestically.
Johnson explained, ‘Radical candidates are running for Congress, and the insurgent left is gaining momentum.’
Lawler maintains that despite political divisions, these should not lead to national disunity. ‘As we proceed toward our next 250 years, this is the greatest country on Earth. Regardless of our political views, we should all appreciate living in the United States.’
