Umar Kremlev, the president of the International Boxing Association, was the benefactor. The sports league, based in Switzerland, is financed by Gazprom, a major Russian state-owned energy company. Kremlev has connections with Russian President Vladimir Putin, having joined him on a delegation to China. Additionally, Ukraine has imposed sanctions on Kremlev, labeling him as a close associate of the head of Putin’s security service.
