Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., offered a prompt meeting with an Angel Mom. This offer came after she expressed feeling ‘completely ignored’ while advocating for immigration reform during Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s confirmation hearing.
Jennifer Bos spoke before the Senate Judiciary Committee, supporting Blanche’s nomination. She highlighted the Trump administration’s emphasis on addressing violent crime and immigration enforcement. Her daughter was found dead in a case involving an illegal immigrant charged with concealing the death.
Bos belongs to the Angel Families group, composed of relatives affected by crimes involving illegal immigrants. They have been actively advocating for stricter immigration laws.
“Miss Bos, anxious to meet with you,”Durbin said.“I hope we can do it soon, maybe right after this.”
During an exchange with Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., Bos revealed it was her first conversation with Durbin. Britt expressed hope that the attorney general and others would meet with victims like Bos.
Bos mentioned that several legislative efforts had been overlooked by Democratic officials. Durbin later addressed Bos again, offering an immediate meeting after the hearing.
Bos detailed the ‘unbearable agony’ her family experienced when her daughter, Megan Bos, was discovered dead in April 2025. The Lake County Coroner’s Office could not determine the exact cause of death.
Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, the accused illegal immigrant, faced state charges that initially did not meet pretrial detention requirements under Illinois law. ICE arrested him in July 2025 in Chicago.
Bos commended Blanche for his intervention, acknowledging the support from ICE’s VOICE office after Mendoza-Gonzalez’s temporary release under Illinois sanctuary law.
Bos urged the committee to confirm Blanche, stating, “I’m asking the committee not to wait until another mother is sitting where I am.”
She emphasized Blanche’s commitment to upholding the law and protecting American families.
Mendoza-Gonzalez remains in federal immigration custody, facing charges related to Bos’ death and his immigration status.
