Senate Primary Debate Highlights Tensions Between Graham and Norman

29 minutes ago 0

Senator Darline Graham and Representative Ralph Norman exchanged sharp criticisms during a Senate primary debate in South Carolina. The debate took place one week before Republican voters are set to select their nominee to replace the late Senator Lindsey Graham.

Graham, a newcomer to the political scene, attacked Norman during the debate, but her limited experience was often highlighted, especially when questions about Taiwan, the South China Sea, and U.S. security interests were raised.

Graham frankly admitted, “I’m not informed on national security, but I do support the military.” She clarified her focus away from foreign policy, contrasting with her brother, Lindsey Graham, who was known for his strong foreign policy stances, particularly on Ukraine, Israel, and Iran.

In a recent Fox News interview, Darline Graham highlighted her plans to prioritize issues concerning everyday people rather than foreign policy. During the debate, she aligned with former President Donald Trump on foreign policy issues, asserting, “I fully trust President Trump when it comes to the war in Iran.”

Norman positioned himself as a non-establishment candidate, criticizing Graham for her ties with Washington. He declared, “Washington is with her. They’re not with me, nor do I want them.”

Graham countered by questioning Norman’s political aspirations, noting his past positions and political campaigns. Both candidates had advanced to the runoff after no candidate secured a majority in the previous primary round.

Despite their disagreements, Graham and Norman found common ground on certain issues, such as their criticisms of Dr. Anthony Fauci over his Senate testimony during the Covid pandemic. Norman said Fauci should be jailed, a sentiment Graham agreed with.

The debate also covered AI data center regulations. Graham stated her support for data center development but emphasized the need for guidelines from local communities. Norman accused her of previously supporting data centers unconditionally, which Graham refuted.

Norman ended the debate by identifying democratic socialism as the real enemy in American politics and promised to push for Trump’s election legislation. He chided Graham for canceling a scheduled debate, expressing a preference for engaging with voters directly.

In her closing remarks, Graham highlighted her achievements during her brief time as a U.S. senator, including voting on a Russia sanctions bill and co-sponsoring conservative legislation.
