Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Fielding Error Sparks Controversy

2 minutes ago 0

During a tense matchup against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night, New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. mishandled a potential double-play ball, leading to an awkward moment of deflection. Instead of accepting the mistake, Chisholm blamed second-base umpire Ryan Additon.

In the scoreless second inning at Camden Yards, Carlos Rodon delivered a precise pitch to Christian Franklin, resulting in a routine grounder to Chisholm at second base. The situation was primed for an inning-ending double play with runners on first and second. However, Chisholm failed to field the ball, loading the bases.

Rather than owning the error, Chisholm pointed at the umpire, but replays showed Additon in his proper position. Despite Chisholm’s misstep, Rodon managed to rescue the team by striking out Carlos Narvaez and Jackson Holliday consecutively, preventing any runs from scoring. This allowed the Yankees to secure a 3-1 victory.

“It sucked. I’ve sucked all season. The numbers speak for themselves.” – Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Chisholm’s frustration surfaced after enduring a tough 2026 season, carrying a .216 average into the game following a recent benching. His own critical view of his performance highlighted his struggles, confirming the challenges he’s faced throughout the season.

Earlier this year, fellow Yankee Anthony Rizzo commented on Chisholm’s lack of maturity, particularly after an ejection during a series at Fenway Park. Despite the fielding fiasco, Chisholm was fortunate that Rodon’s pitching minimized the impact.

Jazz Chisholm Jr., Trent Grisham, and Ryan McMahon were captured leaving the field during their game against the Toronto Blue Jays, reflecting on the ups and downs of their season. The Yankees aim to move forward as they continue to navigate the challenges presented by their recent performances.
