South Carolina Woman Missing After Leaving Gym

2 weeks ago 0

A woman from South Carolina disappeared last week after being seen leaving a Planet Fitness gym and heading toward a wooded area. Elena Katherine Moore, 39, has been missing since Thursday evening after leaving the gym in Lexington, according to the Lexington Police Department.

Authorities reported that Moore signed in at the gym around 6:40 p.m. She was later observed walking toward a wooded area behind a Lowe’s Home Improvement store. She was officially reported missing the next day.

Moore, who works as a personal trainer, has not been seen since. Her unexpected absence is unusual, the police told ABC News.

“Moore signed in at Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way at around 6:40 p.m. Thursday and was later noted walking away from the facility toward a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store,” authorities stated, according to the Lexington Police Department.

On Friday, investigators used a drone and carried out a preliminary search in the area where Moore was last spotted, but they found no signs of her.

By Monday, the search had expanded. Lexington police teamed up with multiple local and state agencies to conduct a thorough search of the wooded areas behind the Lowe’s store and Planet Fitness. This operation received support from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Department of Natural Resources, and other emergency response agencies.

Police Chief Terrence Green emphasized that this was not a recovery mission but a careful examination to dismiss one possible location for Moore’s whereabouts.

“No trace of Ms. Moore was found during the operation,” said Police Chief Terrence Green. Moore is described as a White female, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighing approximately 120 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. Investigators are unsure if she has her cellphone.

Authorities urge anyone with information about Moore’s location to contact detectives at 803-358-7271 or Midlands Crimestoppers.
