Suspect Killed in Midland Shooting, Mayor Confirms Casualties

Officials have confirmed that the suspect in a shooting in Midland, Texas, has been killed. According to Midland Mayor Lori Blong, the incident has resulted in at least one fatality and 11 injuries. The shooting, which began on Friday morning, prompted a standoff with police that lasted about two hours.

The chaotic event unfolded starting around 8 a.m. in one part of the city, ultimately leading to a location near a veterinary hospital. Law enforcement responded vigorously to the active shooter situation, as reported on Friday, June 12, 2026.

“It sounded like at least 40 shots were fired,” noted Andrea Mendias, who works at a nearby automobile body shop. Her video captured a scene of numerous officers emerging from an armored police vehicle, while robots were deployed to assess the area.

Mayor Blong emphasized that the situation was evolving and that containment efforts were underway. She extended thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families, and the officers involved in the response.

The Midland Police Department issued a statement on social media shortly after the event:

“Midland Police responded to an active shooter incident Friday morning in the 4600 block of West Wall Street. Officers heard gunfire from the building and worked quickly to secure and clear the area. Armored units and partner agencies assisted in the response. Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing.”

Midland, located in West Texas with a population of about 140,000, is central to the state’s oil industry. The area experienced a similar tragedy six years ago when a disgruntled oil services worker killed seven people and injured two dozen others during a shooting spree. The cities of Odessa and Midland, close to each other, are situated over 300 miles west of Dallas.
