4 days ago 0

Sylvester Stallone, known for his action roles, shared insights into his difficult childhood. In an interview with The New York Times, the actor talked about experiences of abandonment, violence, and lack of affection, deciding to leave the darkest stories out of his memoir, The Steps. He expressed a desire to avoid invoking pity from readers.

After his parents divorced, Stallone lived with his father in Maryland. His father was described as volatile and physically abusive. One incident involved Stallone being punished for bringing nut bread instead of regular bread after encountering friends at the store. His father attacked him before heading to church, leaving Stallone in disbelief over the harshness of his upbringing.

When Stallone was in his 40s, he confronted his father with an unusual wish—to be the same age for three minutes to reciprocate his father’s harsh treatment. His father was prepared for a challenge, even in his late 60s.

Stallone noted that both parents lacked affection, mentioning that his mother never hugged him as his brother would attest. A rare moment of tenderness from his father when Stallone was nine left a lasting impact. His father gently placed Stallone’s head on his knee while traveling in a car.

The tough environment, including being raised by strangers in a boarding house where his parents seldom visited, contributed to Stallone’s resilience, although he admitted it made him tough in negative ways. He credited his current family with giving him the emotional stability he previously lacked.

Stallone’s Hollywood career, defining roles such as Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, stem from his life’s challenges. Rocky famously received ten Oscar nominations, winning three Oscars, including Best Picture. Stallone has five children across three marriages, finding true love and emotional fulfillment later in life.

Stallone married Sasha Czack in 1974, having two sons, before divorcing in 1985. He briefly married Brigitte Nielsen shared no children. His current wife, Jennifer Flavin, whom he married in 1997, brought him stability, along with their three daughters, Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet.
