The satirical publication The Onion has launched a parody of the conspiracy-focused platform InfoWars. They included a mock video featuring Alex Jones, the founder of InfoWars, in a fake scenario depicting his death. This stunt is part of The Onion’s ongoing legal battle to seize control of the media outlet.
For over a year, The Onion has been seeking to take over InfoWars. This follows a court order requiring Jones to pay more than $1 billion to families of the Sandy Hook victims for his false statements labeling the tragedy as a hoax.
On Thursday, The Onion released its first parody video without having yet gained control of the platform. In a segment titled “ALEX JONES IS DEAD—Real InfoWars Livestream,” comedian Tim Heidecker impersonates Jones, introducing the clip to viewers.
“We have leaked video now revealing that Alex Jones uh popped like a balloon in his car two months ago,” he stated.
“That’s right folks. Alex Jones uh, the Alex Jones that we have come to know over the years uh is dead,” Heidecker continued.
The video shows a black vehicle with an occupant whose face is obscured by the camera. An explosion follows inside the vehicle. A warning notes the video contains graphic content and explicit language.
Heidecker explains in the video, “There’s a violent sudden impact from inside the car, essentially the uh body of Alex Jones uh disintegrating instantly and exploding out.”
Alex Jones has yet to comment on the parody but continues to post recent episodes of his show, The Alex Jones Show, on his webpage Alex Jones Live.
Newsweek reached out to Jones for a response via email outside of normal business hours. Updates on this story are expected.
