Tiger Woods released a meaningful statement on Memorial Day, acknowledging those who have made great sacrifices for the nation. He particularly honored his father, Earl Woods, who served with the U.S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam.
In his message shared on X, Woods expressed gratitude to his late father and others like him, saying, “To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them, we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.” Earl Woods passed away in May 2006 at the age of 74.
My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service.
Woods’s public message was his first since March 31. At that time, he announced a break from public activities to seek treatment following a car accident and DUI arrest in Florida. His charges included DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Though his breathalyzer results were negative, his refusal to take a urine test led to further charges.
On April 1, Woods received permission to travel for inpatient treatment abroad. Recently, he returned briefly to Florida but reportedly resumed his rehabilitation in Switzerland. His private plane was seen returning to Switzerland, suggesting ongoing treatment.
The short visit to Florida matched with news from his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who announced her breast cancer diagnosis. Trump is the former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, and Woods referred to her as his “strength” in this challenging time.
Tiger Woods has not participated in a competitive golf event since the 2024 Open Championship in Scotland. Woods announced his relationship with Vanessa Trump in March 2025.
