Tragic Incident at Hopkins In-Home Daycare

A tragic event unfolded at an in-home daycare near Minneapolis on Wednesday. Three individuals, including a child, were reported dead in a domestic-related incident.

Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson confirmed that officers responded around 9 a.m. to Brown Bear Daycare after a report of a domestic situation. Upon arrival, they found a man, a woman, and a child deceased inside the residence. According to Fox 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul, the victims are believed to be family members. Fortunately, the six other children present at the daycare were unharmed and have been reunited with their families.

A parent arriving to drop off a child witnessed the incident and contacted the police, reported Fox 9. Chief Johnson expressed the tragedy of the situation, lamenting the horror a parent would feel receiving such a call. Johnson stated, “There’s no worse scenario than this, where you drop off your child to somewhere you think is safe, and you get that phone call.”

Police later issued a statement noting they had responded to a report of a stabbing at the daycare, located in the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North in Hopkins. They assured the public there are no outstanding suspects or ongoing threats.

Investigators believe the deceased male perpetrated the incident in isolation and took his own life, Johnson shared with Fox 9.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed condolences and support for the Hopkins community. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty also offered the services of the office’s victim services division to those affected.
