An 18-year-old student lost his life, and three others, including an 11-year-old child, suffered injuries in a shooting during a high school graduation event in Northern California.
The incident took place at Sem Yeto High School’s graduation ceremony, held at Fairfield High School on Wednesday evening. According to police, the victims included individuals aged 11, 20, and 25, with the 18-year-old later succumbing to his injuries.
The Fairfield Police Department reported that surviving victims are receiving medical care. Officer Michelle Belyea informed the community that, as of now, no ongoing threat is evident. The investigation remains active, with more updates expected soon regarding any suspects involved.
Sem Yeto High School functions within the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District as a continuation school. Witnesses revealed chaotic scenes following the ceremony, with one observer recounting how a man approached and commenced firing, causing panic and scattering among attendees.
The Fairfield Mayor, Catherine Moy, encouraged residents to follow official updates from the police department. She expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, noting her personal connection to Fairfield High School. Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez also extended condolences, acknowledging the event’s lasting impact on the community.
