Veteran pass rusher Von Miller signed a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders prior to the 2025 NFL season. At the time, he had another offer from the Seattle Seahawks, who eventually won the Super Bowl that year. While the Seahawks celebrated their victory, Miller and the Commanders experienced a disappointing season with just five regular-season wins, missing the playoffs.
During a conversation on the “89” podcast with Steve Smith and James Palmer, Miller openly expressed regret about his decision in free agency. “Obviously, I picked the wrong team on that one,” he admitted.
Miller believed he was joining a team with strong prospects for a Super Bowl title. In the season before he signed, Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led the team to the NFC Championship game. In contrast, the Seahawks failed to make the playoffs in 2024.
Miller explained his reasoning, saying, “For me, with the Washington Commanders, I just felt like Jayden Daniels was poised for another great season.” The previous year, Washington had dealt with numerous injuries, affecting not only the quarterback position but other key areas. “And those are some of the things that you just can’t calculate on teams,” Miller added.
As of now, Miller, at 37, remains an unsigned free agent as the 2026 NFL season approaches.
