Washington Commanders Set for Redemption in NFC East

4 weeks ago 0

Head Coach Dan Quinn’s Third Season

Entering his third year with the Washington Commanders, head coach Dan Quinn is determined to turn the team’s fortunes around. After a challenging previous season, Quinn’s tactics focus on solidifying both the offensive and defensive lineups. Quarterback Jayden Daniels aims to reestablish his star status, contributing significantly to Washington’s quest for a better performance.

Challenges of the Past Season

The Commanders faced numerous hurdles during the 2025 season, finishing with a 5–12 record due to a flurry of injuries. Star quarterback Jayden Daniels was notably absent for 10 games, limiting him to only seven appearances. This absence required reliance on backup quarterbacks, which substantially weakened the team. Washington’s defense also struggled, yielding over 6.0 yards per play, leading to a low DVOA ranking and several disappointing one-score losses.

Offseason Changes

General Manager Adam Peters focused on strengthening the team from the ground up during the offseason. He elevated the defense by signing pass rusher Charles Omenihu to reinforce the edge rotation. Additionally, the drafting of Sonny Styles from Michigan added versatility to the secondary. Ensuring continuity, Peters retained key players like Sam Cosmi and Daron Payne while enhancing the offensive line with seasoned talent to safeguard Daniels.

Current Team Roster

If Daniels returns to his best form, the Commanders’ offense could shine this season. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin is expected to thrive with Daniels’ consistent presence. Stefon Diggs, despite being older, remains a valuable second choice. Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt has shown potential, and increasing his game touches from last season’s average should benefit the team’s run game.

Strengthening the Defense

Defensively, Dan Quinn counts on the likes of Daron Payne and Charles Omenihu to deliver upfront. Depth challenges continue in the secondary, where young players and rookies like Styles will need to prove their mettle against strong division competitors.

Betting Prospects

Washington’s betting line stands at 6.5 wins, a target they are capable of surpassing given better health and improved play. Strong performances from Dallas and the Giants are anticipated, whereas the Eagles might falter. With strategic improvements and revitalized players, betting over 6.5 seems promising.
