Antonacci’s Hustle Earns Double

In an intriguing play, Chicago White Sox left fielder Sam Antonacci grabbed a double when his grounder deflected off the glove of Kody Clemens, the Minnesota Twins’ second baseman, in the sixth inning. With the Sox ahead by one run and runners positioned on second and third, the Twins brought their infield in. Antonacci’s hit rolled into center field, allowing him to reach second base safely.

“I just feel like I have a good knack for knowing when I can take that extra base and when not,” Antonacci explained. “Sometimes I get in trouble, but I’m hopeful for more success.”

The play resulted in two runs. Manager Will Venable emphasized Antonacci’s base-running skills, which were honed during spring training.

Antonacci later scored on Randal Grichuk’s single, contributing to a 10-1 victory. The impressive match, attended by 32,024 fans at Rate Field, saw Grichuk and Kyle Teel hitting homers during a dynamic eighth inning.

Standings and Strategy

The Sox stayed 2 1/2 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. The Guardians maintained pressure by defeating the Detroit Tigers 3-2. Meanwhile, the Twins fell further behind.

The victory was a team effort, with the bullpen playing a crucial role. Four relievers followed opener Bryan Hudson, achieving 15 strikeouts and limiting walks.

“Everybody threw the ball well,” noted lefty Hagen Smith.

Smith excelled, retiring nine batters over three innings, striking out three. Venable was impressed by Smith’s stamina and control, noting how he helped bolster the pitching strategy.

Smith’s contribution this season has been significant, boasting a 0.56 ERA. His efficiency was key in Sunday’s game, allowing him to pitch deeper.

Consistent Team Effort

A blend of strong offense and pitching marked the victory. Run support in the fifth inning included Antonacci doubling and scoring after Munetaka Murakami’s single. Antonacci shone with a two-run double in the sixth to extend the lead.

“Tonight was all about the bullpen,” Antonacci commented, adding praise for Smith’s exceptional performance.

Antonacci’s enthusiasm was palpable, eager to contribute to his team’s success, highlighting the pressure of September’s playoff-like atmosphere.

The Sox extended their lead in the seventh and eighth innings, with Grichuk and Teel adding significant homers. They completed the season series against the Twins with an 8-5 record.

“Nights like this show what we’re capable of,” Teel observed, valuing the team’s collective work.
