The incident occurred after lifeguards had left for the day, leaving Moore to heroically enter the ocean near 10th Avenue South at around 7:53 p.m.

Despite successfully bringing the girl to safety, Moore was pulled underwater by the powerful current and subsequently disappeared, according to police reports. His body was recovered after washing ashore the following day, as stated by Myrtle Beach authorities. Moore’s family confirmed that he did not know the girl he saved.
