A young boy, aged 4, was found with a gunshot wound to his head inside a home on the Far South Side of Chicago, officials reported. The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called to the house located in the 2200 block of East 99th Street in the South Deering neighborhood. They arrived around 4 p.m. and discovered the injured child, according to Chicago police accounts.
The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. Initially, medical staff listed his condition as critical.
Authorities found one firearm at the scene. Detectives from the Calumet Area department are investigating the incident to understand the circumstances.
