Bar Harbor, Maine — During a rally in Maine, Representative Ro Khanna from California expressed that Senate candidate Graham Platner should issue an apology to the women who recently recounted concerning experiences with him. In a brief conversation with NBC News, Khanna opposed the alleged behaviors of Platner, as described by three women in The New York Times.
Khanna mentioned, “I think he should apologize. I believe what he did was wrong, was misogynistic, was toxic or volatile.” Recounting the sentiments of the women, Lyndsey Fifield, a former girlfriend, described an incident where Platner allegedly “twisted her arm behind her back, shoved her into a bedroom, and held the door closed so she couldn’t get out, insisting she stays until calm.” Platner disputed certain allegations of physical abuse and labeled some statements as politically driven.
In a recent interview with MS NOW, Platner denied any allegations of physicality, questioning the motivations behind the claims. Fifield has connections with conservative entities and Republican campaigns. Khanna, standing as a prominent national supporter of Platner, defended him at a public event featuring various Democratic hopefuls.
Addressing the audience, Khanna stated, “He understood that those years were not the best years of his life.” He further emphasized Platner’s acceptance of accountability and efforts towards personal growth and improvement.
