A recent study reveals that Minnesota stands out as the top state for ensuring the well-being of its citizens, surpassing states known for wealth and technological hubs.
Minnesota’s Success
Despite not being one of the wealthiest states, such as Connecticut, New York, or Washington, D.C., and not being known for technology like California or Texas, Minnesota claims the top spot in resident quality of life. The state is described as calm, pragmatic, and not heavily ideological.
The Study
Conducted by the State of the Nation Project, the study involves a bipartisan group of experts. It evaluates states based on 31 measures, crafted by scholars and advisors who served five U.S. presidents, including Donald Trump. Released on a Saturday, the study highlights Minnesota’s standout performance.
“We have a national problem on our hands,” said Douglas N. Harris, a Tulane University economist leading the project.
Concerning Trends
Despite Minnesota’s good ranking, the study also notes a troubling national scenario. Across the United States, including Minnesota, there is a decline in self-reported personal well-being and mental health. Trust in institutions and fellow citizens is dwindling, contributing to overall unhappiness.
Douglas Harris pointed out that although Minnesota excels compared to other states, it too is experiencing these negative trends, especially in mental health and family-related areas.
