US Suspends Anthropic AI Systems Due to Security Concerns

3 weeks ago 0

On Friday night, Anthropic announced that the United States government ordered the company to suspend access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 artificial intelligence models. This decision stems from national security concerns.

The San Francisco-based company disclosed the government’s directive through a social media post. The company stated it must disable these AI systems for all customers to comply with the order. This suspension impacts foreign nationals working in the company as well.

Claude Mythos, introduced by Anthropic in April, is at the center of these concerns. The company stated it could not release the AI system to the public. The reason is its potential use in cyber attacks on computer networks.

This new AI model has raised significant concerns among experts in Washington and Silicon Valley. They have long worried about AI posing significant threats to computer network security.

Anthropic provided the Claude AI system to about 40 organizations with critical computer infrastructure. This was to help them identify and fix security vulnerabilities before exploitation by cybercriminals.

The Commerce Department issued the order, according to a source familiar with the situation. Details about the duration of these restrictions remain unclear.
