Knicks Triumph in 2026 NBA Finals Against Spurs

2 weeks ago 0

The New York Knicks celebrated a significant victory, lifting their first Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy since 1973, after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games during the 2026 NBA Finals. This victory added pain for the Spurs, who were holding onto thoughts of what might have been. Their +173 playoff point differential stands as a record for a team not winning the championship.

Throughout the series, the Spurs led with double digits in every game but faltered in four of the five games. Notably, the Knicks now possess the Nos. 1, 4, and 6 largest comebacks in NBA Finals history. The largest comeback was during Game 4, where they overcame a 29-point deficit at Madison Square Garden on June 10.

“One of many things I learned is the margin of error is very, very thin,” shared Spurs star and NBA Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama after their Game 5 loss. “Our domination stints are absolute. We absolutely dominated for most of this series, but our errors, our mistakes, are punished so hard. We can’t have ups and downs like this.”

Wembanyama also expressed frustration about the long wait for another Finals opportunity. “What I’m pissed about is that there’s probably 100 games before we can be back in the Finals,” he said.

For the Spurs, hope remains as they reflect on history. The 2013 Spurs had a similar fate with a +147 playoff point differential but returned stronger to win the 2014 NBA Finals. Current predictions for the 2027 NBA Finals position them as slight favorites, according to ESPN.
