Engaging discussions and laughter surrounded European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as they awaited the arrival of others, including Trump, Zelenskyy, and France’s Emmanuel Macron.

Recently, Trump noted potential for progress in resolving the Ukraine conflict. He mentioned redirecting attention to Ukraine now that issues with Iran seem resolved. The U.S. had previously been more involved in peace efforts in Ukraine until these decreased in recent months. Zelenskyy continues to call on Western allies to prioritize Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.

Oil Prices Drop Amid Iran Deal

Energy prices fell considerably following a U.S.-Iran agreement to cease fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. crude oil prices dropped by 4.8% to $80.75 per barrel, while Brent crude prices decreased by 4.7% to $83.17 per barrel. These are the lowest prices since early March, shortly after the conflict with Iran began.

Nuclear Inspectors to Return to Iran

Vice President JD Vance confirmed that nuclear inspectors would re-enter Iran as part of the agreement with the U.S. to end the war in the Middle East. Vance, in an interview with NBC News, explained that a key component of the agreement involves the International Atomic Energy Agency and the U.S. aiding Iran in dismantling its highly enriched uranium stockpile. The memorandum of understanding, outlining the war’s resolution framework, will be publicized after a formal signing in Switzerland.
