An Oklahoma teenager is in a critical condition following her participation in a risky viral trend called the ‘Benadryl challenge.’ This social media challenge has resulted in several hospitalizations among children.
The challenge involves consuming large amounts of Benadryl with the intent to fight the drug’s sedative effects and experience a high. This can lead to severe consequences such as seizures and cardiac issues.
Fifteen-year-old Leah Presson is currently receiving intensive care in Oklahoma. Medical assessments indicate that she has shown no brain activity, as reported by local news source KFOR.
Leah’s father, Richard Presson, expressed his feelings to the news outlet: “I don’t even want to think about a funeral because I feel like there’s still hope and everybody’s like, giving up too soon… I believe in miracles, that she’s definitely a miracle baby.”
He further emphasized the importance of education: “I just want everybody to be aware of where they can educate their kids. But these challenges are just silly, and they need to be educated so it doesn’t happen again.”
