Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, criticized Vanessa Frazier, the U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict. This occurred during a tense exchange regarding the inclusion of Israel on a sexual violence blacklist.
The confrontation took place at a Friday U.N. meeting for the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. A report co-authored by Frazier included Israel on a sexual violence blacklist.
“You caved to the pressure. You caved to the Secretary General’s obsession with targeting Israel,” said Danon.
Frazier attempted to respond, leading to further tension.
“Wait, I’m speaking now!” shouted Danon.
The United Nations Secretary-General’s office listed Israeli entities in the annex of its annual Conflict-Related Sexual Violence report. This report mentioned the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Prison Services, and other organizations. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres labeled these groups as suspected of involvement in rape or other sexual violence patterns.
Danon had previously criticized the decision to add Israel to the blacklist. He also froze relations between Israel and Guterres’ office.
Fox News received a statement from Danon’s office denouncing the decision.
“Israel has been placed alongside terrorist organizations. This is a moral disgrace,” said Danon.
Danon also called for the resignation of U.N. Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten. He pointed out Patten’s absence at the meeting while disputing attempts to defend her by Frazier.
“Ms. Patten was invited here, she chose not to be here,” Danon remarked.
Danon accused the U.N. of not independently verifying the evidence or giving Israel an adequate chance to address allegations. He claimed Patten supported a politically motivated campaign against Israel.
“If verifying facts is not Ms. Patten’s responsibility, then what is it?” questioned Danon.
Danon announced that his office plans to file a formal complaint with the U.N. regarding Frazier’s interruptions during the meeting.
A spokesperson for Patten and Frazier did not immediately respond to inquiries.
