Local Art Show Celebrates Unique Talents

1 week ago 0

Amidst the popularity of mass-market art fairs, a distinctive art exhibition emerges focused on local artists’ visions. The Artists on the Bluff Summer Arts Festival, held on the Village Green in Lake Bluff, spanned Saturday and Sunday, marking a tradition lasting 26 years. This event stays true to its original mission.

During the festival, young artists, Remy Dobbins (4), Olivia Evans (5), and Reese Hrusovsky (3), all residents of Lake Bluff, crafted unique Father’s Day cards. The festival boasted 29 seasoned and locally-based artists, along with live music, food trucks, and art activities for children. Gina Grillo covered the event for the Pioneer Press.

Festival director Alison Tompkins emphasized the importance of the community engaging with local creators and supporting artists. This year’s show, featuring local talents, presented a variety of art forms including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, pastels, sculpture, photography, pottery, collage, woodwork, mixed media, and jewelry.

Artist Christiane Bouret from Skokie highlighted the festival’s non-commercial nature, allowing artists freedom in their creations. Pencil artist Phil Schorn appreciated the festival’s size and quality, describing it as a ‘hidden gem’ with exceptional artists.

Matt and Katie Frekko from Lake Forest viewed the event as a community gathering. Matt noted its intimate, engaging scale with diverse contemporary artwork. Similarly, Annette Dezelen from Lake Forest expressed her joy in attending, valuing the unique treasures offered by local artists.
