Prince Harry’s Efforts to Secure Family Visit to the U.K.

3 hours ago 0

Prince Harry is actively seeking ways to ensure his wife Meghan and their children can join him on an upcoming trip to the U.K. planned for next month. However, a dispute over security arrangements is complicating these plans, as disclosed by representatives of the royal couple.

BBC News reported that Prince Harry is reconsidering a July visit due to the U.K. authorities’ rejection of his request for taxpayer-funded police protection. In a statement to CBS News, the representatives confirmed, “The prince continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the U.K.”

The Duke of Sussex lost a court battle in 2024 and a subsequent appeal in 2025 regarding the decision to reduce his tax-funded security detail when visiting the U.K. This decision followed the announcement in 2020 that he and Meghan would step back from their official royal roles and relocate to California.

After his 2025 appeal loss, Prince Harry expressed to BBC News his hesitance to bring his family back to the U.K. without the previously provided police security that other senior royals receive. More than a year later, Harry is facing this decision again.

Senior royals typically receive consistent personal protection from a specialized unit within London’s Metropolitan Police. Since stepping back from his public duties, Harry’s security has been downgraded and is now assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) in the U.K.

Harry’s legal team argued during his court proceedings that private security in the U.K. would be inadequate due to legal restrictions on carrying firearms and accessing government security networks.
