San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s interest in a potential move to the Washington Commanders seems to be facing issues. Recently, Aiyuk shared a video on his social media, aiming comments at Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, referring to him by his jersey number, ‘5’.
Aiyuk voiced his thoughts, “‘5’ gonna text me talking about some, ‘You’re on my team now. You follow my rules.’ Boy, I’m a grown a– man, boy,” he stated. “You gonna have to start running behind your momma and I might believe what you talking about. But until then, (No).” He tagged Daniels in another post, adding, “Tf always so funny lil n—a. Turn your savage up.” In a different post, Aiyuk expressed interest in teaming up with Daniels, writing, “Let’s run it 5! Let’s see! Need you available all szn and I’ll do the same.”
The 49ers are seeking a trade partner for Aiyuk, who signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the team in August 2024. General Manager John Lynch’s statement that Aiyuk is done, coupled with Aiyuk’s public dissatisfaction, affects his prospects. Aiyuk’s efforts to reunite with his former Arizona State teammate in Daniels are evident.
Aiyuk has been vocal about his issues with the 49ers, referring to some team decisions as “dumb” and “stupid,” particularly regarding his contract extension. He claims the team fears releasing him due to potential performances elsewhere. The disagreement has been ongoing for nearly a year, since the team voided his remaining guaranteed money after missing rehab for ACL, MCL, and meniscus injuries.
The 49ers put Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list in December due to absences from team facilities. Before his injury in 2024, Aiyuk recorded 24 catches for 374 yards. His standout performance was in the 2023 season, with 1,342 yards, 75 receptions, and seven touchdowns, which contributed to the team’s Super Bowl appearance.
