George Clooney, renowned actor and producer, will be celebrated at the Venice Film Festival in September, marking 48 years in Hollywood. Clooney, known for his roles in over 50 films and as one of the top-grossing actors, will receive the prestigious Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement.
The festival, one of the major international film events, will be held from September 2-12 in Lido di Venezia. According to Variety, Venice Biennale recognized Clooney for his remarkable career, stating, “A perfect blend of star glamour from yesteryear, exceptional professionalism, and modern sensitivity, the actor has demonstrated rare versatility across various genres.” His notable works include war films like ‘Three Kings’ and ‘Syriana’; thrillers such as ‘Michael Clayton’; comedies including ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and ‘O Brother Where Art Thou?’; science fiction films ‘Gravity’ and ‘Solaris’; and comedies like ‘The Descendants,’ ‘Up In the Air,’ and ‘Jay Kelly.’
The biennale’s statement further noted Clooney’s ability to maintain his unique persona, combining irony and melancholy with depth in each of his films. He has also made significant contributions to cinema through directing and producing. Clooney stands out as only one of three stars nominated in six Oscar categories, including best picture, director, and screenplay categories. Alfonso Cuaron and Kenneth Branagh are the other two.
The festival also acknowledges Clooney’s influence beyond acting, honoring his dedication to social and humanitarian efforts. This recognition underscores him as an influential figure in show business.
Clooney, established as a festival regular, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’ve had many extraordinary experiences in Venice. This festival is my favorite, and receiving the Golden Lion is a great honor.” At 65, Clooney humorously stated, “It also probably means I’m old, but I’ll gladly accept it.” He last appeared in the 2025 comedy-drama ‘Jay Kelly’ alongside Adam Sandler, Billy Crudup, and Laura Dern.
