Tom Homan’s Criticism of Sanctuary Policies

White House border czar Tom Homan has strongly criticized New York City’s sanctuary policies and the stance of Mayor Zohran Mamdani regarding federal immigration enforcement. Homan argues that these policies put citizens at risk by hindering the removal of criminal aliens. He supports his claims with examples of thousands of arrests by immigration authorities.

ICE Surge in New York

Homan has announced plans for an increased ICE presence in New York City. He emphasized that the Trump administration remains undeterred by the city’s sanctuary status promoted by Mayor Mamdani. Homan stated, “It’s coming,” during his appearance on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” He chose not to provide further details, citing concerns that well-funded groups might try to interfere with ICE’s actions.

Political Reactions

Homan’s comments came shortly after Mayor Mamdani expressed pride in the city’s sanctuary status and reiterated its unwillingness to cooperate with federal immigration efforts. Mamdani discussed his stance in a New York Times interview, highlighting a refusal to engage in civil immigration enforcement with a federal government aiming for widespread deportations. He admitted he had never visited the U.S.-Mexico border.

In response, Homan argued Mamdani’s position would not thwart ICE operations, stating that illegal immigrants who crossed the border are subject to deportation under the rule of law. Homan suggested changes to the law should be addressed to Congress if opposed.

Trump’s Border Policies

Homan endorsed President Trump’s efforts to enhance border security and mass deportations, highlighting Trump’s campaign promises as a significant factor in his election success. He asserted that Trump’s administration results demonstrate his commitment to fulfilling these security promises.
