Badar Khan Suri, a researcher from Georgetown University, claims he was wrongfully singled out by immigration authorities due to his family’s support for the Palestinian cause in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
On July 24, 2026, Suri was embraced by his spouse, Mapheze Saleh, upon his arrival at Washington Dulles International Airport. This occurred after a judge had decreed his release from an immigration detention center in Texas.
The Indian national had been detained at his home in Virginia by federal immigration officers and subsequently transferred between multiple detention facilities. A decision by a federal appeals court on Thursday now permits Suri to remain free on bond.
