Hollywood Era Icon Eva Marie Saint Passes Away at 102

Eva Marie Saint, an Oscar and Emmy-winning actress celebrated for her contributions to Hollywood’s Golden Era, has passed away. She was 102 years old. Saint died of natural causes on Tuesday at her Los Angeles residence, surrounded by family and loved ones, as confirmed by her representative to Fox News Digital.

Saint’s distinguished career began with an outstanding film debut alongside Marlon Brando in the 1954 classic On the Waterfront. Her portrayal of Edie Doyle earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 1959, Saint further solidified her status in Hollywood by starring opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest. Her role as Eve Kendall, the enigmatic ‘Hitchcock Blonde’, became iconic in the thriller genre.

Saint’s remarkable career spanned over seven decades, during which she collaborated with celebrated actors such as Montgomery Clift, Henry Fonda, Paul Newman, Gregory Peck, Richard Burton, Warren Beatty, James Garner, George C. Scott, Burt Lancaster, and Tom Hanks.

Her film repertoire also includes notable titles such as A Hatful of Rain, Raintree County, Exodus, The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming, Grand Prix, Nothing in Common, and Superman Returns later in her career.

Beyond film, Saint was prominent on television and theater. She earned five Emmy nominations, winning in 1990 for the miniseries People Like Us, and performed on Broadway in The Trip to Bountiful prior to her breakout film role.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Albany and Delmar, New York, Saint initially pursued education at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, aspiring to teach before transitioning into acting.

Saint shared 65 years of marriage with director Jeffrey Hayden before his passing in 2016. Her enduring legacy continues through her two children, Darrell and Laurette, along with four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Saint’s passing marks the close of a significant era in Hollywood history, leaving behind an indelible legacy alongside notable stars and filmmakers of the 20th century.
