Scrutiny on Abdul El-Sayed’s Alleged Ties to Muslim Brotherhood

1 hour ago 0

Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic candidate for the Michigan Senate, is under examination following his denial of any connections between himself, his family, and the Muslim Brotherhood. This topic was addressed on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ where Kristen Welker questioned El-Sayed’s ability to clarify allegations concerning his family’s links to the controversial group.

In response to Welker’s inquiry, El-Sayed firmly stated, ‘No.’ When further asked whether neither he nor his family had any ties, El-Sayed reiterated his denial. He also suggested that his Republican competitor, Mike Rogers, was inciting Islamophobic attacks targeting him and his family.

“No,” El-Sayed responded when asked about Muslim Brotherhood ties.

However, El-Sayed’s half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi, has made statements to the contrary. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, from 2012, she mentioned their mother, Fatten Elkomy, was actively involved with the Muslim Brotherhood during her college years in the early 1970s. Abdelhadi expressed admiration for her mother’s activism in her post.

Abdelhadi also remarked on her family’s longstanding ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Her sentiments indicated disapproval of the group’s political strategies.

“My family has long been MB, but I’ve always felt that it has navigated the political sphere poorly/destructively,” Abdelhadi wrote.

She further showed concern for her family in Egypt linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in another post from 2013.

El-Sayed faces criticism, with accusations of deceit regarding his family’s alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood during his ‘Meet the Press’ appearance.

A spokesperson from El-Sayed’s campaign provided a statement to Fox News, underscoring his dedication to keeping Michigan residents healthy and safe. The spokesperson argued that the claims of Muslim Brotherhood connections are unfounded and racist, asserting that Mike Rogers’s campaign is attempting to distract voters from issues related to Trump’s policies affecting Michigan families.

NBC News had not provided an immediate response to Fox News Digital’s inquiry concerning the interview. The article is authored by Joseph A. Wulfsohn, a Fox News Digital media reporter.
