Nearly 200 people gathered in downtown Naperville on Saturday morning, emphasizing a clear message: participate in the upcoming midterm election. This rally, organized by Indivisible Naperville, the League of Women Voters of Naperville, and the American Association of University Women Naperville Area, was one among hundreds of “No Kings: Vote Early” events across the Chicago area and nationwide.

Similar rallies occurred in nearby areas including Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, and Elmhurst. Demonstrators cheered as a group marched to the Naperville Municipal Center to vote during the rally at the Washington Street Bridge. The event highlighted a call to action, encouraging voters to make a plan and vote early, as emphasized by organizers.

“We aim to be near voting locations, encouraging early voting,” stated Donna Cheesebrough, president of the Naperville League of Women Voters. Protestors expressed this message, holding signs like “Now or Never 2026 Midterm Elections” and “Rise Up! Take Back What’s Ours! Vote!”

Naperville resident Nick Owens voiced his support for the Democratic Party. He criticized the current administration and stressed his dedication as a citizen to vote. Some protestors, including Therese Bouchard from Canada, criticized the Trump administration, despite not being eligible to vote themselves. Bouchard emphasized the importance of Americans understanding their role in shaping government.

The rally maintained a positive and uplifting atmosphere, with a Dixieland band providing music reminiscent of New Orleans’ Bourbon Street. Dianne McGuire, co-leader of Indivisible Naperville, shared her inspiration for incorporating live music into the event.

The rally also drew a response from DuPage County Republicans, who organized trucks to drive by with messages opposing Gov. JB Pritzker. DuPage County Republican Chair Kevin Coyne highlighted the political landscape in Illinois and the calls for Republican voter turnout.

Participants like Don McBride, a resident of Naperville, reacted to the opposition voices at the rally. McBride emphasized the collective opposition to the Trump administration and reiterated the importance of voting for future generations.
