A Memorable Wedding Held in Honor of Family Legacy

6 days ago 0

Some weddings stand out because of their location, while others hold significance due to the people involved. For Samantha Albright and Josh Campbell, their private ceremony in Aurora was unforgettable because of two people who couldn’t attend. The couple exchanged vows in Chet and Judy Albright Park on Iowa Avenue, named after Samantha’s grandparents. Their influence still resonates within their family and the community they cherished.

When planning the wedding venue, Samantha noted they considered several options. But reflecting on those who would be present and those who wouldn’t, the decision became evident and deeply meaningful.

Chet Albright, who passed away in 2017, grew up at Mooseheart. There, he met Judy, his future wife, and together they experienced 56 years of marriage. Chet was the first alderman of the 6th Ward on Aurora’s City Council. His tenure of eight years was a key period for the city, as mentioned by current Alderman Mike Saville, who followed Chet in 1987 when Chet left to work at Mooseheart. On the Aurora City Council, Chet played a pivotal role in transitioning the city to a new form of government. He also led the Plan Commission, establishing the first economic development office, and helped develop the far East Side, advancing infrastructure after Fox Valley Mall was constructed in 1974.

Chet, a former owner of Northgate Barber Shop, was actively involved in Boys Baseball of Aurora. He also participated in the Batavia Moose and Aurora Rotary clubs. Judy contributed by working with special needs children at Hope Wall School in Aurora. Saville highlighted their love for children and family and their exceptional ability to make everyone feel valued. Samantha noted, “Grandma was more quiet and reserved,” while her grandfather was outgoing, recognizing people by face and name everywhere they went.

The 26-year-old bride recalled her grandparents as her biggest supporters, attending all her school and sports events, even if it required long travel, especially for her softball games. Among the cherished memories was sitting and conversing with her grandfather in the family’s four-seasons room. The gifted storyteller often practiced public speeches with her there. These stories became treasured family memories, even for Josh, who never met Chet or Judy. Judy passed away soon after her husband.

The wedding ceremony of Samantha and Josh Campbell included 16 close family members and was filled with meaningful moments, especially the exchange of rings. The date of their marriage was Saturday, June 20, 2026, and they wed at Chet and Judy Albright Park in Aurora, named in honor of Samantha’s grandfather, the first alderman of the 6th Ward, and her grandmother, who inspired a tattoo on her arm.

After Chet’s unexpected death from a heart attack after a girls’ basketball game at Mooseheart, Judy gave her wedding bands to her granddaughter. They had been kept safe for years until Samantha and Josh got engaged. Mike Saville expressed his happiness upon learning that the young couple wanted their ceremony in the park he helped establish, honoring a couple who dedicated their lives to the community.

Samantha recalls rides around the city with her grandfather, who pointed out the changes in various wards. He was well-informed about the town’s challenges but always emphasized the positive and spoke proudly of Aurora.

Chet and Judy Albright Park on Iowa Street in Aurora honors the life and legacy of the couple. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the pride for their contributions was palpable. Judy once wrote to Samantha, encouraging her to ‘enrich the lives of others as you have enriched mine.’ The first part of this message is tattooed on Samantha’s left forearm, visible among floral designs as she and Josh promised their future together. Samantha insists that her grandparents were not only foundational to her as a person but also to making the day so special.
