The Hechinger Report focuses on inequality and innovation in education to inform the public about potential improvements and their significance.

During my tenure as an assistant principal in Chicago, I would receive about 20 applications for a physics teaching position. English teaching positions garnered as many as 150 applications.

This occurred in the late 1990s. However, by the time I departed from the district, similar job postings struggled to attract even one or two qualified candidates.
