AOC Criticizes Democratic Party’s Support for Biden

2 months ago 0

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, recently criticized members of her own party during a podcast interview. She voiced concerns about their support for former President Joe Biden.

“The Majority Report” host Emma Vigeland questioned Ocasio-Cortez on the Democratic Party’s credibility regarding democracy. Vigeland suggested Democrats alienated voters by mishandling serious issues and by supporting Biden’s re-election without a primary challenge.

The host remarked that Vice President Kamala Harris lacked the necessary credibility while discussing democracy.

“What I find very interesting about that moment,” Ocasio-Cortez stated, “is that some Democrats actively pursued Biden’s ouster, yet they were also the ones pushing for a streamlined primary process.”

She argued that these Democrats once advocated strongly for Biden, only to later call for his resignation as a test of party loyalty. Their previous actions, according to Ocasio-Cortez, stunted the primary process that she believed should have occurred.

During Biden’s campaign struggles in 2024, Ocasio-Cortez supported him until his departure in July 2024 due to calls for him to drop the nomination after a difficult debate against Donald Trump. At the time, she asserted that no viable alternative was evident.

Therapist Jonathan Alter discussed Democratic voters’ disillusionment with perceived hypocrisy. He highlighted that voters can forgive errors, but not inconsistencies in values.

Several Democrats initially supported Biden against Trump but later sought to distance themselves from those decisions due to their unpopularity.

Facing pressure to withdraw after the June 2024 debate, Biden saw former Democratic lawmaker Dean Phillips enter the primary race. Phillips’ candidacy faced opposition from party leaders and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Phillips openly criticized Democratic leadership’s resistance in an op-ed in May 2025. He highlighted the obstacles from leaders, stating they would not communicate with the White House upon announcing his campaign.
