1 day ago 0

Police in Virginia arrested a 19-year-old in connection with a mass shooting at Virginia State University on Saturday. The suspect, Camron Harris from Henrico, Virginia, is not a student at the university. The incident injured five people, with one victim in critical condition. Only one victim was a student at the university.

There was a lengthy manhunt following the shooting. Police eventually located Harris hiding in a closet inside one of the campus dormitories. Felony warrants were issued for Harris, including four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in a felony. Harris remains in custody without bail at Chesterfield County Jail. Additional charges may follow.

The shooting occurred early on Saturday morning. Officers responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street at approximately 1:28 a.m. and found five people with gunshot wounds outside the VSU residence halls. The university’s statement expressed concern for the community and assured increased police presence as the investigation proceeds. Students are advised to check their VSU emails for updates on safety measures and available support resources.

The lockdown on campus has now been lifted. VSU, a state-supported historically Black university, is located in Ettrick, Virginia, about 25 miles south of Richmond.
