Representative Jake Auchincloss has triumphed over Jason Poulos in Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District primary. Auchincloss, who has held the seat since 2021, faced his first Democratic primary challenge.
Jason Poulos, an AI policy researcher, criticized Auchincloss for his previous support of military aid to Israel and his association with AIPAC. Poulos advocated for an end to U.S. military assistance to Israel, alongside advocating for policies such as Medicare-for-all, universal basic income, corporate automation taxes, stronger unions, and student debt cancellation. He also emphasized the need for reducing military spending.
While Auchincloss received endorsement from AIPAC, he has expressed criticism towards some Israeli actions in Gaza, describing them as exceeding humanitarian boundaries in 2025. AIPAC, a significant pro-Israel lobbying organization, encourages U.S. military support to Israel amid ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In a notable July vote, Auchincloss joined over 100 House Democrats to cut $3.3 billion in U.S. military aid to Israel. Despite this, he continues to support the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Auchincloss’s campaign emphasized reducing housing and healthcare costs, fostering economic growth, and preparing Democrats to address economic challenges posed by AI advancements.
Auchincloss succeeded Joe Kennedy III and hails from a notable Boston medical family. Once a registered Republican, he had worked on the campaign of former Governor Charlie Baker before rejoining the Democratic Party.
