Ben Affleck has addressed longstanding speculation regarding a particular scene in his extensive film career. Affleck, aged 54, confirmed that he fully revealed himself in the 2014 psychological thriller, Gone Girl.
In the film, based on Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel and directed by David Fincher, Affleck portrayed Nick Dunne, who becomes a key suspect following the disappearance of his wife, Amy, played by Rosamund Pike. The film includes a notable shower scene where Affleck appeared nude.
I wore no prosthesis,
Affleck clarified in an interview with Variety, adding that he had only ever used one prosthetic in Hollywoodland, and it was for his nose.
Affleck further elaborated on the director’s assurances during filming, stating he was “assured” that nothing explicit would be shown to audiences. At the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, where Gone Girl received the Best Film award, Affleck humorously commented:
I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool … If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.
Reflecting on the experience years later, Affleck shared with Letterboxd:
I was willing to do anything for [Fincher], like, be naked. Working with David was the great privilege of my life. He’s one of the absolute greatest filmmakers ever to live.
Jennifer Garner, Affleck’s ex-wife, also joked about the scene on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, saying:
What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome.’ I just try to consider myself a charitable person and I wanted to give back.
