Brewers Secure World Series Spot with Victory Over Dodgers

2 hours ago 0

LOS ANGELES — Milwaukee advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1982 after a thrilling 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. Garrett Mitchell’s decisive home run in the sixth inning, and a staunch performance from the bullpen, paved the way for the Brewers’ series sweep.

David Hamilton, typically not a home run hitter with only four during the regular season, provided Milwaukee with a crucial two-run buffer in the ninth inning with a solo shot off Edwin Díaz. This proved vital for the Brewers’ victory. “We got down early tonight,” said Brewers captain Christian Yelich. “Stay together, start chipping away, and that’s exactly what they did.”

The Dodgers, seeking their third consecutive championship, started strong with a 4-0 lead. Shohei Ohtani’s first postseason home run contributed to this advantage, but the Brewers’ comeback ensured a clean sweep. Remarkably, they achieved this after being swept themselves by the Dodgers in last year’s NLCS. “Playing with that chip on our shoulder,” recalled Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby, reflecting on their previous disappointment.

Mitchell, vital in the Brewers’ surge, was unfazed by a challenging 0-2 count against reliever Tanner Scott. He hit a 409-foot homer to center field, an unforgettable first 0-2 count homer in his career. His consistent performance also included a homer in the previous game’s 6-2 victory.

The Brewers’ bullpen, demonstrating poise under pressure, thwarted several Dodgers’ advances. JoJo Romero, earning the win, struck out Max Muncy to leave Kyle Tucker stranded at third in the sixth. Ashby maintained control, pitching three scoreless innings and striking out Ohtani before securing outs against Mookie Betts and others.

The Brewers capitalized in the fifth inning, tying the game at 4 through strategic play. A series of walks and stolen bases pressured the Dodgers. Tyler Glasnow, after initially retiring ten consecutive batters with six strikeouts, faltered. Hamilton’s single brought the Brewers within one run, prompting Glasnow’s exit. Subsequent walks issued by Alex Vesia tied the game.

Ohtani momentarily lifted the Dodgers with a three-run homer, releasing his postseason frustrations. Despite early celebration, the Dodgers were unable to maintain their lead as the Brewers’ resilience led them to victory.
