Bryan Kohberger Seeks Post-Conviction Relief

Bryan Kohberger, who admitted to murdering four University of Idaho students, plans to seek post-conviction relief. This follows his guilty plea for a home invasion attack that occurred at 4 a.m., according to sources familiar with the case. Kohberger intends to argue his defense was inadequate.

The story was initially reported by The New York Times after Kohberger personally called a reporter. During the call, he declared his “absolute claim of innocence,” marking his first public statement outside of court.

Kohberger stated, “My actual innocence is my truth, and the plea, hinged on by false promises and blatant disinformation, must be withdrawn.”

He made this statement following his court appearance in Boise, Idaho, for the sentencing related to the University of Idaho murders. Prosecutors based much of their case on cellphone location data and digital evidence.

As it stands, Kohberger is serving four consecutive life sentences without parole, plus an additional 10 years for the murders committed on November 13, 2022. His guilty plea, made in July 2025, included a waiver of his right to appeal.
