JPMorgan Chase Exec Faces City Fines Over Viral Knicks Parade Incident

5 days ago 0

Angie Báez, a former JPMorgan Chase executive, faced city fines after returning a Knicks-themed trash can that she allegedly took during their championship parade in Manhattan. New York City sanitation officials retrieved the commemorative litter basket a week after video captured Báez dumping trash onto the sidewalk and leaving with the container.

The New York City Department of Sanitation confirmed Báez returned the trash can on Wednesday morning. She was issued two summonses: a $75 fine for littering and a $100 fine for hindering sanitation operations.

The video of the incident went viral following the June 18 parade, where thousands gathered in Lower Manhattan. They celebrated the Knicks’ historic NBA finals victory, defeating the San Antonio Spurs and securing their first championship in 53 years.

Báez, identified by the New York Post, was listed as Executive Director for Community and Industry Engagement at JPMorgan Chase. Her experience included roles in diversity, equity, and inclusion, notably at The Infatuation purchased by Chase in 2021.

JPMorgan Chase confirmed Báez parted ways with the company. A spokesperson declined to offer further details about her departure, reinforcing the previous statement that the employee was no longer with them.

Despite the incident gaining significant attention, NYPD noted they didn’t have any complaint reports associated with the event. The department also highlighted the substantial cleanup post-parade, gathering over 75,000 pounds of confetti and litter beyond Báez’s involvement.

The Department of Sanitation emphasized that while they didn’t estimate Báez’s specific cleanup costs, her action was minimal compared to the overall cleanup effort.

A social media post by the agency humorously noted the citywide presence of 23,000 litter baskets, suggesting smaller Knicks-themed versions are available online for purchase.
