Colts’ Struggles Continue as Alec Pierce Faces Injury Setback

2 weeks ago 0

The Indianapolis Colts are still searching for their first win as they head into Week 3. They have suffered losses to both the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs, with the latter being a narrow overtime defeat. This game was especially difficult because key offensive player Alec Pierce had to leave the field due to a left heel injury.

Pierce’s injury occurred early in the second quarter. It’s the same heel he had surgery on during the offseason, which kept him out of most of training camp. Despite his absence, the Colts managed to keep the game competitive, which highlights their persistence. However, his extended absence could pose a serious challenge for the team.

On Monday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared that Pierce will focus on rehabilitating the injury instead of undergoing surgery. This decision means he might be out for several weeks. Rapoport mentioned that if Pierce’s recovery goes well, he could make a midseason return. The Colts could place him on IR during this time, and the possibility of surgery remains if his rehab doesn’t show progress.

For Alec Pierce, this situation is particularly disappointing. He had signed a four-year, $114 million extension with the Colts after the team transitioned from Michael Pittman Jr. Pierce’s performance last season justified the contract, having recorded 47 catches for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns. He led the team in receiving yards and marked his first 1,000-yard season, averaging an impressive 21.3 yards per catch.

All indications pointed to Pierce boosting his statistics this year. Unfortunately, he might miss a significant portion of the season. In his absence, tight end Tyler Warren is likely to receive more passes, along with receivers Josh Downs, Keenan Allen, and newly signed Darius Slayton.
