A decorated former general compared President Donald Trump’s strategy with Iran to the historic military actions that pressured North Vietnam back to peace talks during the Vietnam War. Appearing on “Hannity,” Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg expressed that Trump’s use of ‘kinetic strikes’ and strong threats has led Iran back to negotiations.
“The bombing that he took, the kinetic strikes, actually brought the Iranians to the table. It’s not the first time we’ve ever done that,” Kellogg remarked.
Kellogg likened Trump’s actions to President Richard Nixon’s 1972 “Linebacker II” bombing campaign, which broke a deadlock in peace talks. Nixon’s operation lasted nearly two weeks with B-52 bombers targeting military sites around Christmas.
Earlier this week, the U.S. responded to Iran’s downing of an American Apache helicopter by conducting attacks inside Iran. Trump, citing progress in potential peace agreements, canceled further strikes. Kellogg noted that Trump’s approach to Iran resembles the Nixon-era responses.
Kellogg emphasized Trump’s strong resolve to secure results, especially concerning Tehran’s nuclear weapons program. Iran has been increasing uranium enrichment significantly, raising concerns. “You’re not doing that for domestic purposes,” Kellogg warned, stressing the importance of hindering Iran’s nuclear ambitions to alter the Middle East’s dynamics.
Kellogg expressed surprise at the lack of broader awareness regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He stressed the need for peace for future generations, calling attention to the broader impact on international stability.
On Saturday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a U.S.-Iran peace deal could be finalized within 24 hours. This announcement, later shared by Trump through Truth Social, highlights Pakistan’s mediation role in the negotiations.
“We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalization likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical-level talks next week,”Sharif stated on X.
They expressed gratitude to both the U.S. and Iran for their commitment, hoping this peace agreement will foster long-lasting peace in the region.
